Red Bean Porridge - 팥죽

Introduction In Korean cuisine, patjuk (팥죽) commonly eaten during the winter season. On Dongjinal, a Korean traditional holiday which fall on December 22, Korean people eat Donji patjuk , which contains saealsim (새알심) meaning bird egg, a ball made from glutinous rice flour, named such due to its resemblance to small bird's eggs, possibly quail eggs. In old Korean tradition, patjuk is believed to have a mysterious power to drive evil spirits away. According to Korean traditional folk beliefs, the color "red" is a symbolic color of positive energy which can defeat negative energy. Cooking and eating patjuk is a ritual to prevent bad luck, epidemic disease, and comes from evil spirits. Introduction Yangpyeong, located in the middle of the Korean peninsula, is surrounded by several mountains and the Namhangang and Bukhangang River. Yangpyeong strawberries are raised in an environmentally friendly way are known to be sweet and rich in vitamins in Korea The Yangpyeong Strawberry Festival is held from February to May. Visitors can pick their own strawberries at strawberry farms and participate in a variety of activities and programs in the village. There are several hands-on events throughout the festival for people of  all ages, for instance, picking their own strawberries from the field, making natural soap with strawberries, traditional games, making traditional rice cake with strawberries, and so on. Busan Songdo Beach (부산 송도해수욕장)

Introduction Located a mere 3 km from downtown Busan, Songdo Beach is a popular escape for the area's city dwellers each summer. Opened in 1913 as Korea's first official beach, the beach was named "Songdo" (meaning Pine Island) in reference to its bordering groves of pine trees. The beach began to gain popularity in the 1960s for its graceful coastlines, but was damaged by frequent hurricanes and subsequent sand loss. Starting in 2000, the beach underwent a comprehensive 5-year reconstruction and reopened with restored and expanded coastlines and the addition of several fountains. Songdo Beach is particularly beloved for its romantic summer night view and as host of the popular Busan Sea Festival and spirited Hyeonin Singing Festival.
